Roman chamomile isn’t cheap, but it’s such a versatile, useful oil that it’s worth adding to any small collection. Its pleasant fragrance is floral with fruity, herbal notes that might remind you of the sweet scent of a fresh-picked apple. It can soothe body and mind alike, and is among a handful of essential oils that are safe for infants.

Precautions
Despite Roman chamomile’s widespread usefulness in blends that heal skin ailments, it may cause skin irritation in some individuals. Do not use during pregnancy. May cause allergic reactions in people who are allergic to plants in the daisy family. Can cause drowsiness. Know how Roman chamomile affects you; if you’re among the many who find it very relaxing, do not use it before driving, or while operating machinery.

Application Methods
INHALATION: Blended with 1 cup of steaming water and inhaled, 2 or 3 drops of Roman chamomile can promote a sense of calm. If adding it to a diffuser, use the number of drops recommended by the diffuser’s manufacturer.
TOPICAL: Blend 2 drops of Roman chamomile essential oil with 4 to 6 drops of carrier oil and rub the mixture onto the soles of your feet at bedtime. You’ll enjoy a sense of peaceful relaxation as you drift off to sleep.
BATH: Whether you’re in the mood for relaxation or if you’re suffering from irritability or PMS symptoms, adding a few drops of Roman chamomile essential oil to your bath water can work wonders. If bloating is a problem, mix up a quick batch of bath salts with 10 drops of Roman chamomile essential oil and 2 cups of Epsom salts. Soak for at least 20 minutes and you’ll emerge feeling a bit more like yourself.

Keep your skin smooth and healthy with the help of Roman chamomile essential oil. You can create your own daily facial moisturizer, or simply blend a drop of essential oil into a dab of your current moisturizer each time you use it. Roman chamomile’s soothing scent promotes peaceful sleep, making it a good choice for bedtime baths. Just add 4 to 6 drops to your bathwater and soak for at least 15 minutes. Calm children by diffusing Roman chamomile essential oil in the areas where they spend time. Note: This is best for times when relaxation is the goal.
